The first episode of “The Curious Mic” features former R&AW chief Amarjit Singh Dulat. Regarded highly as a spymaster, Dulat also served as a Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau.

He spoke about the return of democratic process in Kashmir. He feels Article 370 is a nonissue and J&K is bound to get back its statehood.

In the late 1980s, posted in Kashmir he witnessed the rise of terror. He negotiated the release of 5 terrorists to secure the release of the then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed’s daughter Rubaiya.

In 1999 as R&AW chief, he escorted 3 dreaded terrorists in the Kandahar hijack case of flight IC814.

In Kashmir, he saw terror gain control as Centre meddled with the state’s politics. His office in Kashmir was embattled as lakhs of Kashmiri Hindus migrated out and hundreds were killed.

After retirement, he was adviser on Kashmir in the Prime Minister Vajpayee’s Office between 2001 and 2004.

In an expansive interview with Rahul Shrivastava, Dulat shares unheard anecdotes and his hair raising experiences while handling sensitive assignments.

The current NSA’s “Doval muscular doctrine”, is often compared to the “Dulat doctrine” which focused on building relationships through engagement with the people.
