In today's video, we’re taking a look at a lick that Stevie Ray Vaughan plays in the original Texas Flood album recording of his song ‘Lenny’.

SRV was a master of blending the notes of the major pentatonic and minor pentatonic scales and the album recording of Lenny is a stellar example of this. There are so many great licks in that track and I would strongly encourage you to study it note for note because you will learn a lot about phrasing in the process.

I’d been studying it myself for a few weeks and in this video I wanted to show you guys what I had learned about his approach to mixing the notes of the major pentatonic and minor pentatonic scales.

We’ll be taking a look at the construction of each scale, relative to the major scale, and through doing so you will gain an understanding of where Stevie’s note choices come from.
