Brief life of St Columba of Iona. St Columba's life and the Monastery on Iona are examples of how true repentance can not only save a soul, but can actually turn the sin of that person into the very 'fuel' God uses for his salvation.

Without St Columba's fall and his exile from Ireland in Scotland, none of the exceptional spiritual heritage of his life and of his Monastery would have existed. Without his fall, there would be no Iona, none of the great Saints of Celtic Christianity who lived here and found their salvation in these isles, there would be no Book of Kells, no Iona Abbey none of the gifts of St Columba's heritage would exist.

Fr Seraphim, from the Monastery of All Celtic Saints on the Isle of Mull in Scotland, talks about the transformative, lifecreating power of true repentance. When repentance is not reduced to a dull feeling of regret or shame, but becomes the engine of one's entire life, it transforms that person, and allows God to step in and use everything in his life including his past sin to bless and save his soul.
