Starship Aftermath Destruction at the Launch Pad

Follow
Mike Killian

Covering the first test launch of SpaceX’s new Super Heavy moon rocket & Starship, launched from Starbase in south Texas on April 20, 2023. The giant stack is the first of many prototypes that will flight test to help evolve the design, which will mature into a reusable deepspace crew & cargo transport, with endless possibilities.

SpaceX had to selfdestruct the rocket on ascent, but the liftoff obliterated its own launch pad, & sent debris in all directions. The surrounding habitats were cratered with chunks of concrete, rebar, & pad infrastructure.

Pad aftermath shot as soon as the public road was reopened a couple days after launch.
