Before even picking up a pen to write with, there are three things you need to familiarise yourself with, Posture, Placement and Position.

Sitting correctly, Posture, dramatically increases the effectiveness of not only the practise of calligraphy but the enjoyment of the practise.

Good posture is critical is to good practise and it allows the practitioner a good, general overview of the writing sheet, increases the capacity for good breathing, and this in turn assists with smoothness of writing allowing for the regulation of even, consistent, unrushed forms.

This video looks at the relationship of the feet, shins, thighs and back and how that influences the chest and shoulder muscles.

The relationship of the deskheight to the chairheight is also taken into consideration and is shown clearly in the video, allowing for a calligraphy more enjoyable, but more importantly, less stressful on the neck, shoulders and back. The video is suitable for both righthanders and lefthanders.
