In this video I present my algorithm for management of a stiff knee replacement. Ideally, you will regain a functional range of motion by 6 weeks following surgery. If you are unable to accomplish this, you could consider manipulation under anesthesia. If you get beyond 68 weeks postoperatively, and at that point need help with range of motion, scar tissue is too dense to yield safely to manipulation alone, so I would recommend arthroscopic lysis of adhesions with manipulation. As a last resort a very stiff knee replacement could require full revision surgery.
