If you want to create a stockinette knit fabric as shown in my pattern, you need to make the first row with the knit stitches shown in this tutorial, row 2 knitted with purl stitches, then row 3 knitted with knit stitches and then row 4 purled again. Stocking Stitch onesided. The front and back sides look different.
