"Your core is weak and you need to strengthen it," they say... And so you walk around bracing your core and holding your spine in neutral to protect your back. Contrary to popular belief... Research shows no clear link between core strength/stability and pain. Evidence also shows that core strengthening exercises are no more effective than general exercise at reducing pain. And yet people with back, butt, & sciatica pain are still being told that their spine is unstable, they need to brace their core, strengthen their transverse abdominis, and perform exercises like the McGill Big 3 to reduce pain and prevent back pain in the future. None of it's true.
