If you are unable to read drum music notation, it’s time for that to change. Learning how to read music means that you no longer have to rely on someone else to teach you how to play something. This is huge! You can now teach it to yourself by reading it, and you’ll be able to much more easily memorize what you learn as a result. Keep watching, because I’m going to show you how to read and write common rhythms and grooves we drummers encounter all the time. I’ll also share with you why you should strictly avoid drum tabs, and I’ll show you some additional resources to help accelerate your interpretation skills. Before you know it, you’ll be reading right along with me.

If you are a “self taught” learner, the ability to read and write musical notation is one of the most valuable skills you can have. Don’t neglect this any longer. Master it today! It’s not that hard. Musical notation is very mathematical and logical, and it makes total sense as soon as you start learning it. Most of the time you only have to count to 4, and we’re usually just dealing with three types of notes. Furthermore, you can learn to recognize common patterns that are like words. Once you see these words, you know exactly what they mean instantly. This is when you really start to read music well. Now the really cool thing about this is that you’ll also find it easier to memorize grooves, fills, and rhythms. When you’re able to write them out and learn them visually as well as aurally, you can memorize them much more quickly. Be sure to download the “5 Steps to Learning Any Song in Under an Hour” guide at the top of the description, because this will show you how to use your newfound knowledge to conquer songs much more quickly. Have fun!
