First this superhit film 'Zanjeer' was to be done with veteran actor Dharmendra.
Director Prakash Mehra had heard the entire incident of that time in an interview regarding the film Zanjeer.
He had said that this film was not his. In fact, actor Dharmendra had bought the script from writer duo SalimJaved. At the same time Mehra was planning to make a film named 'Samadhi'. Dharmendra liked the film 'Samadhi' so much that he offered to give the script of 'Zanjeer' to Light Mehra instead of 'Samadhi'. For this reason Light Mehra who wanted to produce and direct the film "Samadhi" could only direct the film "Samadhi" for the script of the film 'Zanjeer'. This is how Light Mehra bought the script of the film 'Zanjeer' from actor Dharmendra.
And then Prakash Mehra of "Samadhi" started preparing for the film 'Zanjeer' Dharmendra agreed to play the lead role in the film. Mumtaz's name was also announced along with Dharmendra for the film 'Zanjeer'. According to Mehra, Dharmendra also wanted to produce the film 'Zanjeer'.
Meanwhile, Prakash Mehra, wellknown writer K.K. Copy of 'Kahani Lucky Ki' from Narayan. Dharmendra also liked the subject of 'Kahaani Luck Ki'. According to Mehra, "Dharmendra told me that if I give his godfather Arjun Hingorani in the film industry of 'Kahaani Kismat Ki', he will give full support in 'Zanjeer'. I felt sad. But I said that I will do two films for 'Zanjeer'. Can't compromise."
Then Dharmendra refused to do the film 'Zanjeer' Mehra further says, "One day Dharmendra told me that he wanted to start his brother's film and would start 'Zanjeer' after its shooting was already done. But I plan to complete my 'Zanjeer' film in 6 months." It was I tried to convince him a lot that the shooting should not be delayed. But they were not ready. I couldn't wait for the length. Then one day Dharmendra talked about stable peace, then he agreed that he would not do this film due to his busy work.
Thus, when Dharmendra left the film, Light Mehra went to Dev Anand. Liked them story. But he missed these companions. He claimed to have invested threefour songs in the film. But Prakash Mehra was not ready for this. And secondly, Dev Anand had proposed to make the film 'Zanjeer' under the banner of his home production 'Navketan Films', for which Prakash Mehra was not ready at all.
Under its direction, Prakash Mehra narrated the script of the film 'Zanjeer' to actor Rajkumar. The script was liked, but it is said that Prince did not like the fragrance of Light Mehra's hair oil, due to which he refused to act in the film.
