Stranraer to Glasgow - no longer the boat train

Johnny Hoover Travels

What is Stranraer like now the ferries have gone? I decided to stay over and then get the first train out of the day so I could have a look.

The station at Stranraer is a decent walk from the town at the end of the now defunct ferry harbour. There's been no ferries for over 10 years, but there's also been no redevelopment of the site and the station is still stuck in its "end of the pier" position. I thought I'd go and have a looksee.

The scenery from Stranrear to Ayr is beautiful as the train wends its way up and down the glens, although today, with all the rainy weather it was a little harder to appreciate. And from Ayr, I stayed on this train as it meandered across to Kilmarnock taking the "slow train" route into Glasgow.

Come and join me as we ride the "no longer a boat train".
