The hear is a muscular pumping organ present in the chest cavity slightly tilted towards left side. The size of the heart is about the size of a close fist.
The primary function of the heart is to pump the blood throughout the body. Blood delivers oxygen and nutrients to the body cells and also to the heart cells and carries urea etc to the kidneys to be removed.

Anatomy of the heart:
When we study the structure of the heart, it consists of four chambers.
2 atria which are upper chambers.
2 Ventricles which are lower chambers.
There are 3 layers of tissues in the heart structure, which are epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. There is a thin protecting coating called pericardium. Pericardium protects the heart, produce fluid for lubrication, maintaining hollow space for expansion, and holds the heart in position.
There are two types of circulation, the one is called pulmonary circulation and the second is called systemic circulation.
The heart is having valves which ensure the blood flow in a particular direction.The closing and opening of the valves produce sound called lubdub sound.
