Shortly before the opening of his latest exhibition, The Page visited artist Choi Myoung Young in his studio.

For 60 years, Choi has worked ceaselessly to explore and expand the limitations of painting as a medium, constantly evolving and honing his ‘conditional planes’
surfaces upon which he piles on endlessly repeating strokes of the brush, finger, awl and roller, each action taking on an almost meditative quality.

더 페이지 갤러리에서의 전시 오픈에 앞서, 최명영 작가의 작업실을 방문했다.

지난 60여년 간 최명영 작가는 회화의 본질적인 한계점과 성질을 탐구해오며, 자신만의 ‘평면조건’ 을 끊임없이 발전, 정립시켜왔다.
캔버스의 평면 위에 무수히 반복되는 붓, 지문, 송곳 그리고 롤러의 움직임은 마치 매일같이 행해지는 수행처럼 작가의 내면을 실체화한다.
