The subclavius muscle is a short muscle of the shoulder girdle. It originates at the first rib and inserts at the lower surfaces of the clavicle. The brachial plexus and both the subclavian artery and vein pass underneath the subcavius muscle. The function of the subclavius involves the stabilization of the clavicle in the sternoclavicular joint as well as the elevation of the first rib and depression of the clavicle.

The innervation of the subclavius muscle is provided by the subclavius nerve.

In this video we explore the most important facts and aspects about the subclavius muscle in order to understand the anatomy of the small muscle.

0:10 subclavius muscle origin and insertion
0:39 passing structures and innervation
1:02 functions (stabilization, rib elevation, clavicle depression)
