Subtitles Should Not Be Optional

The Tomee Bear

Eddsworld has Subtiles (aka Closed Captions) on almost every one of its videos. Why don't other YouTubers? Well, it's complicated.

The title is intentionally provocative for reasons I outline in the video I can absolutely forgive most channels for not subtitling their videos. Even for bigger channels like Eddsworld, the cost of subtitling is often too high to justify it above other expenses. I'm very lucky that my workflow lends itself to subtitling, not every channel has that luxury.

That being said there are companies who will subtitle your videos for you. I have no experience with those companies but Tom Scott wrote a handy guide in the description of this video:    • Five Things You Can't Do On British T...  . This was actually the video that convinced me to include captions on all my videos, and I highly reccomend it.

If you run a larger channel who can afford an editor, maybe considering buying some subtitles on your next big video.
