A PARTY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
From the delicious grilled sardines to the most varied moments of music and animation, fun is for the whole family!

Portimão is celebrating and once again celebrating its main gastronomic icon. Throughout the riverside area, between the museum and the old fish market, the atmosphere will be festive and combined, as tradition dictates, with the aroma of the traditional sardines that promises to whet the appetite of all visitors.

Elected best summer gastronomic event in Europe in 2022, the event takes place from August 1 to 6, 2023, counting, on August 1, with a historical recreation of the unloading of sardines in the riverside area of the city.

FESTIVAL GROUNDS
The grills are working again and filling the riverside area (next to Av.Guanaré) with the most traditional and characteristic aroma of grilled sardines. The sardine on a plate and on bread is available on the festival grounds, at the points of sale of local communities:

Boa Esperança Atlético Clube Portimonense

Sports and Recreational Club of Pedra Mourinha

Clube União Portimonense

GEJUPCE Gil Eanes Youth Portimonense Club

Grupo Desportivo e Recreativo Alvorense.

The “Festival Plate”, which includes 5 grilled sardines, bread, boiled potatoes and, of course, the famous ‘Á Algarvia’ salad (drinks not included) has a fixed price of €10.50.

With visitors looking for alternatives to Grilled Sardines in mind, these local communities and the exhibitor area will also guarantee various menus, which will of course not lack regional snacks.

HISTORICAL RECREATION
As in 2019 (inaugural year) and in 2022, the beginning of the Sardine Festival in 2023 is marked by the historical recreation of the famous “sardine discharge” which, 40 years ago, was a very picturesque reality in the riverside area of Portimão.

Local associations and volunteers, together with the Portimão Museum, are preparing this year's show, which promises, once again, to revive memories in the elderly and remain in the memory of the youngest.

This recreation with costumes, 'sayings' and means of transport of the time, already the subject of an honorable mention by APOM Associação Portuguesa de Museologia (in 2020), in the category of “Innovation and Creativity”, this year takes place on August 1 , at 5 pm, inaugurating and opening this 27th edition of the Sardine Festival (at Cais Gil Eanes).
