SVU-200 UAV Helicopter First Non-Autonomous Controlled Flights Designed by Dennis Fetters

This video is being posted again because YouTube deleted the soundtrack off the previously posted video. So I applied some new music (soundtrack off The Final Countdown) and posted it again.

These are the first human controlled flights of the SVU200 before it became fully autonomous. The pilot is Mr. Walt Farar, who successfully controlled the SVU200 in these video clips on February 10, 2012.

The SVU200 was designed for Hunan Sunward Science and Technology Co., LTD., of Changsha China, where Mr. Fetters has been living and building the project for the last 2 years, working handinhand training Sunward engineers in the art of rotorcraft development while manufacturing 100% of the SVU200 UAV helicopter in China except for some electrical components. Mr. Fetters has stated "after intense training to the stringent demands of the aerospace industry, the highquality of the workmanship in the SVU200 can now compare or exceed that of any UAV helicopter anywhere in the world".

The SVU200 is powered by a Rotax 582 engine using the special Fettersdesigned PEP (Power Enhancement Package) exhaust system, enabling the engines power to be increase from its normal 65 to 78 horsepower. The SVU200 is capable of lifting up to 200kg of payload and fly at a top speed of 209km/hr. The SUV200 has two internal payload bays, one in the nose and one in the rear of the aircraft, and is also equipped with hardpoints and capable of hauling slingloads, or carry an external cargo/payload pod, and even extendedrange tanks with extra fuel for longer mission capabilities.

The SUV200 is not an existing helicopter converted to a UAV, but was designed from the ground up as a "large helicopter made small" and not a "small RC helicopter made big", like most all other UAV helicopters to date. All parts were specifically designed and built for this project and are unique, using custommade geared transmissions and tailrotor drive shafts. Therefore the SVU200 has the same construction as a fullsize manned helicopter, along with the same reliability and longevity as a fullsize manned helicopter.

Mr. Fetters is one of the only people in the world that has successfully designed and manufactured both helicopters and gyroplanes, which places him in a unique category of designers. He now enjoys the rewards and liberties of being a freelance designer and/or ProjectManager, while previously designing 10 different rotorcrafts when he owned his manufacturing businesses in the U.S.A., while building over 1700 of those designs and shipping them worldwide. He is best known for the famed Air Command series of Gyroplanes manufactured in the 1980's that revolutionized that industry, and also known for the Mini500 singleseat helicopter that he manufactured in the 1990's.
