Relatives of victims of the Swissair crash left Geneva for Halifax to recover the bodies of their family members.

In Halifax the gruesome task remains for the relatives to identify remains retrieved from the ocean waters where the MD11 jumbo jet crashed.

It was a trip they thought they'd never have to make.

These are relatives of the victims of Swissair flight 111.

Griefstricken families from Europe are on their way to Nova Scotia's rocky coast to confront the chore of identifying remains of their loved ones.

Authorities are trying to protect the mourners' privacy but as with any largescale disaster news of the victims' deaths is broadcast around the world.

Moment by moment details are emerging from farflung places about the array of distinguished professionals who were among the 229 people killed in Wednesday night's disaster.

Brilliant doctors, highpowered executives, risktaking relief workers were among the dead.

Seven of the victims were affiliated with the United Nations.

Swissair has released all but two of the names of the 215 passengers.

Some one hundred or so relatives will be coming from here in Geneva and Swissair say they are expecting dozens more from New York.
