This week we visited Tabuaço, a village in the district of Viseu and seat of the municipality. To get to Tabuaço from the Douro we have to go through a beautiful valley.
It is the Vale do Rio Távora, a river that rises near Trancoso and flows into the Douro near Pinhão. What attracted me to Tabuaço is its geographic location. Viewed in the distance from the north bank of the Douro, it gives us the feeling of being a village suspended on a kind of balcony between mountains and rivers.
The diversified landscape of Tabuaço and the road structure, which contouring the slopes of a very accentuated relief, provide the visitor with panoramic views of extraordinary beauty, especially to the north and in the valley of the River Távora where you can still find pieces of primitive landscape between the landscape naturalized by man.
The municipality of Tabuaço is characterized by being located between the plateaus of Beira Alta to the south and the rough slopes of the rivers Távora, Tedo and the terraces in the Douro to the north.
Its oldest nucleus develops along a kind of ridge, in which its former parish church is its epicenter.
