El Tren Maya (the Mayan Train) is a $20billion rail route that began operations in December 2023. Connecting dozens of mustsee sights across the Yucatán peninsula, it spans 1,554kilometers or 966 miles.

The goal is to link famous tourist destinations in the Caribbean with lesserknown attractions inland, while highlighting the historic Mayan sites that give the train its name. 42 trains will carry up to three million passengers a year.
