Talkernate History - Mission To Moscow (1943)

Mission To Moscow is one of the most bizarre films ever made. The year is 1943, and FDR wants Hollywood to make a movie which portrays the Soviet Union in a positive light. Warner Brothers responds by making an adaptation of Joseph E. Davie's book about his time in the Soviet Union called "Mission To Moscow".
The film portrays The Soviet Union and the Soviet leaders in glowing terms which would be completely unthinkable in the USA just two years later. The film makes excuses for The Soviet Union's pact with Germany, and their invasions of Poland and Finland. Most egregiously, it portrays the Great Purge of 1937, the yezhovshchina, as being 100% justified. And the famous Moscow show trials are depicted at length in the film with the confessions taken at face value. It must be seen to be believed.
