Welcome to a "No Extra Costs" Restoration of a lost and forgotten Tamiya Grasshopper II 2WD 1/10 Buggy RC Car. Without worrying too much about "originality" let's get it back to it's former glory. One rule only: I can only use what I already got lying around. No extra costs!

So, this is a restoration that I've been looking forward to for quite some time. Several years ago I bought a Tamiya Grasshopper II from a friend that had acquired it in a Tamiya lot. He was in no need for an extra GH2. It was very cheap and I already had some Grasshopper II items lkying around, unused:

some white TS paint
a set of Grasshopper II 2017 rerelease decals
some unused rear tires from an old Thunder Shot
lot's of standard Tamiya electronics
... and a lot of time!

Yes! I know, with the addition of a modern ESC and the rerelease stickers it will look nothing like the original one. But I'm in no need of a original Grasshopper II and I prefer running my cars without an unreliable MSC or old costly vintage stickers that cannot be replaced easily.

One down set though: At first glance I thought only the towers of the chassis was broken, and my initial thought was that the home made shock tower bracket actually would be more durable than the original one. It turned out that the area around the bracket and towers was broken too.

So, without adding extra costs of a new chassis, let's see how a quick epoxy fix will hold up! Admittedly it could probably need some new aluminum brackets and reinforcements ... but I already got four other GH2 chassis based cars (the rerelease, a Super Hornet, a Rising Fighter and a black edition rerelease waiting to be built) so if it doesn't work out I can run the body on one of them. Or eventually get a new chassis.

Since my Super Hornet and Rising Fighter already got a 540 motor I will probably replace the 540 motor on this one with a 380 motor. That will help keep the chassis intact. And perhaps install a 540 motor on my upcoming Black Edition ReRelease.

And yes! The painted tires and painted wheels in the video is only for display. When I run it it will be with another set of tires/wheels.

Next up: An original 1993 Super Hornet! ... let's try some epoxy and a "no extra costs" rule on that one too.
