NOTE: May 2023 marks the 78th anniversary of the end of World War II the greatest catastrophe in the history of our civilization. This makes me go back to those days for a moment to remind on this channel of the music that was played in Poland at that time.

This song is one of the most beautiful and captivating ever written during the war and about the war. It was composed by Soviet composer Nikita Bogoslovsky, and after the war it became a hit in Poland, performed by such prominent artists as Mieczysław Fogg    • Mieczysław Fogg  Ciemna Noc (Unikat)   and Wiera Gran    • Wiera Gran sings Russian tango  Ciem...   The beautiful text was written by prominent Polish poet Julian Tuwim. It describes the longing of a World War II soldier who writes a letter to his wife, expressing his love for her and their child and his belief that through the power of love the "deadly force of war" will not destroy him.

It was first performed in the 1943 Soviet war film "Two Soldiers" by actor & singer Marek Bernes    • Тёмная ночь Поёт Марк Бернес HD Tiomn...  , and recorded shortly thereafter by Leonid Utesov and Peter Leshchenco despite the reluctance of the Soviet authorities, who considered it "too sentimental and bourgeois."

Here it is sung by Polish singer Jerzy S. Adamczewski (19212001), who in the late 1940s and early 1950s was a baritone who performed at opera houses in Warsaw, Bytom and Poznan. In later decades he taught at the Warsaw State Conservatory.
