In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Delhi Campaign of Peshwa Baji Rao 1. Peshwa’s march march on the Mughal capital, Delhi, from Pune started on 12 November 1736. With him he took 50,000 cavalry troops. Initially Saadat Khan halted Maratha chiefs Malhar Rao Holkar, Vithoji Bule and Pilaji Jadhav. After which Muhammad Shah got complacent. Baji Rao avoided Agra and took Mewati Hills route and reached Delhi. Mir Hasan Khan Koka Advanced on the maratha army but got comprehensively defeated. Baji Rao then retreated from the capital, concerned about the approach of a larger Mughal force from Mathura. Later Baji Rao faced Nizamulmulk in Bhopal where the military genius of baji Rao lead to food blockade and Nizam had to accept a truce with Peshwa.
