Tenaún where houses sail
Coral Award for "Best Television Documentary Series" at the IX Festival of New Latin American Cinema, Havana, 1987.
It tells a magical, epic, and simple story. It is a tradition that the inhabitants of a town practiced from time to time out of necessity and solidarity. (Now, it has become folklore repeated for tourists) The documentary has become legendary and even gave the town its name, which is now called "Tenaún where the houses sail" Like an extraordinary tale, it has traveled to architecture congresses, festivals, and has been broadcasted by many TV stations in America, Europe, and Asia. Its protagonists are the neighbors of Tenaún, who came together in 1987 to help Juan Bahamonde by conducting a Minga de Tiradura de Casa by land and sea. Twelve pairs of oxen dragged the house to the sea. After waiting for the tide, a small boat towed it, and finally, it was transported with animals to its new location.
