TERMITE DAMAGE - How Much Did They Damage My Wood Floor?

Follow
Home Inspector Dan | Phoenix, Arizona

After living in our home for about 7 years, we finally decided to remove the wood flooring in a bedroom. We were told the home had termites and was treated before we moved in. We actually inherited and keep renewing our termite warranty with a national company. We didn't know exactly where the termite damage was, until today.

Termites can cause significant damage to wooden floors and other wood structures in a home. Here are a few steps you can take to prevent termite damage to your floors:

1. Keep the home dry: Termites are attracted to moist environments and are less likely to infest dry wood. Make sure to repair any leaks or plumbing issues and use a dehumidifier to keep your home's humidity levels low.

2. Store firewood and other wood materials away from the home: Termites are often attracted to wood that is stored near the home, so it's important to keep firewood and other wood materials away from the foundation.

3. Use chemical barriers: Chemical barriers can help prevent termites from entering the home by creating a chemical barrier around the foundation. These barriers should be applied by a professional pest control company.

4. Inspect the home regularly: Regular inspections can help you catch a termite infestation early, before it becomes a bigger problem. Look for signs of termite activity, such as mud tubes, termite droppings, or damaged wood.

If you are concerned about termites damaging your floors, it's a good idea to consult a professional pest control company. They can assess the risk of termite infestation in your home and recommend the best course of action to prevent or treat an infestation.

Regular termite inspections and home maintenance on your plumbing fixtures and hvac equipment is an easy way to prevent most water leaks, which attract termites. If termite tubes are found on your foundation, call an exterminator to evaluate the infestation and treat as needed.

I found several areas of termite infestation in the wood flooring. We will be replacing the wood with carpet to cut down on noise and increase comfort in the bedroom. Subscribe to my channel ‪@homeinspectordan‬ for those videos soon.
