Its 1977, and you’re at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, at the premier of a road actioncomedy film, ‘Smokey and the Bandit’. The spotlight is stolen by the film’s star car, a goldandblack Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Featuring this distinctive Ttop in a highly successful movie was a winwin situation. Its appearance in the movie propelled Trans Am sales beyond 93,000 units by 1978.
This ’81 Firebird T/A is painted in Starlight black with gold and features the ‘screaming chicken’ decal on the hood that is recognizable on any road, that this is what our vehicle offers – the chance to turn MANY heads as it passes by. The look is completed with the new gold Snowflake wheels and new BF Goodrich radial T/A tires. Homage to the ‘Bandit” is in the form of a Bandit decaled license plate. The car is rust free and features the “shaker” hood.
The interior features tan high back bucket vinyl seats that are in great shape. Rear seats have barely been sat in. We LOVE the gauges in this Pontiac. The consignor stated that he also has the original chrome gauge background that will be included with the sale. A modern KENWOOD Bluetooth MP3/CD/AUX was also installed with JL audio speakers. New tint was also placed on the windows.
Pontiac’s 4.9L V8 sends power to the rear wheels via three speed automatic transmission. Equipped with a fourbarrel carburetor; it was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 240 lb.ft of torque. Odometer shows 2,615 for the miles since the restoration. We do have receipts for a new battery, alternator, brakes, catalytic converter, AC, new rims/tires, and 40 series Flowmaster exhaust.
