अस्थमा की जाँच के लिए कौन से Tests होते है | Asthma Ki Janch Kaise Hoti Hai | Asthma Diagnosis

In today’s video, Dr. Priyanka Singh breaks down several tests doctors use to confirm asthma diagnosis. These tests also help doctors see if other respiratory conditions are affecting the asthma patient apart from asthma alone. If you suspect or are unsure about your symptoms, this video will help you.

One of the tests doctors perform to detect asthma is the Complete blood count (CBC) test. Eosinophils, part of white blood cells (WBC), are slightly higher in asthmatic patients but less than 1000.

Serum total IgE is another blood test indicating if the body is hypersensitive to an allergen.

Sputum test is another option for patients with mucus and cough, as it helps rule out underlying conditions like TB or viral infections.

Pulmonary function test (PFT) measures the amount of swelling and constriction in the respiratory tract.

Spirometry is a noninvasive test that takes 30 to 45 minutes and provides two values: FEV1 (force expiratory value) and FVC (force vital capacity). If the test report shows FEV1/FVC values below 70% or below 60%, it indicates asthma, while if they go down to values like 30% or 35%, it indicates severe asthma.

A chest Xray is another test that detects ‘hyperinflation of lungs’ during severe asthma. Hyperinflation means the lungs are slightly expanded beyond their normal capacity. Also, a chest Xray of people with chronic asthma might show an ‘Emphysematous condition,’ where proper air exchange is not happening in your respiratory system due to air trapping.

If a patient suspects asthma but has no confirmed diagnosis, they should consult a healthcare physician and get individual investigations done.

Dr. Singh advises against conducting investigations or tests on your own, as doctors need a complete history of symptoms and multiple investigations. Instead, please consult a doctor and follow their prescription for individual investigations.
