The #1 technique for creating exceptional art. World Watercolor Month Demonstration Week 5 Do-Over

Follow
Angela Fehr Watercolour

I used to struggle through a new painting scene, and then run from it like I was fleeing a fire. Over the years it became clear to me, however, that the more often I repeated a subject, the better my paintings became.

I've realized that it's never too late to start again! My first version of a scene is much more likely to show me what I don’t know about my subject yet than it is to be the best version I could paint. My painting process has evolved to show a commitment to my reference photo that I never had at the beginning; a willingness to paint the scene up to twenty times in the search for the version that feels the most like me.

Painting a scene again after time has passed is also a great way to evaluate growth and see how your style has evolved over the years.
