The Amazing Evolution of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared Explained

Critical Positivity

This is a video about Don't Hug Me I'm Scared that I made. I didn't like how the most popular videos on DHMIS were always lore or theory videos so I wanted to make this essay/critique/review or whatever instead. This surprisingly long running series is pretty unique and I had a lot of fun talking about it. Hope you found some value in it too. All of my ideas for video subjects in some way involved artists getting screwed over so it was nice to talk about something that (at least right now) has a happy ending.

Also just wanted to add some quick addendums*
I failed to mention the contributions that Blink Industries had made. They've been with the group since the very beginning and gave them studio space to record the first two webisodes in. Baker Terry also made a short film for them called Bin (2016) which you can watch on YouTube. Also contrary to my previous claims there was actually more than two writers hired for the TV series. Natasha Hodgson was also in a role that seems similar to the one Megan had although it is a little unclear.

On that note I should also say that even though I cut the workload between the three of them as Becky=Puppets, Pelling=Directing, and Terry=Music/Acting the division of labour isn't actually that cut and dry. Becky is credited for directing alongside Pelling in every episode but also Pelling seems to be responsible for most of the 2D animated sequence himself. And all of them at some point have had a hand in acting and writing music so who knows how much any of them are doing on any given episode. The three of them equally credit themselves as cocreators so I'll continue to do the same. I'm grateful for what we've got to see from these artists so far and I can't wait to see what they make next.

So best of luck to the Sloan, Terry, and Pelling in whatever they might do in whatever future project they might make!

B+
