Follow
Birds & Sounds of Nature

The Song Sparrow is one of the most common sparrows in North America. This bird is quite large with a long, rounded tail. The Song Sparrow is gray and brown in color, with reddishbrown wings and tail. Note the thick brown stripes on the underparts and a broad dark whisker stripe. There is a certain pale rusty variation in the southwestern United States; more black stripes in California; generally dark in the Pacific Northwest. Found in a variety of lowlying habitats in the wild, near and far from human presence. It can also be seen on the edges of fields, usually near water. Hear the Song Sparrow's husky calls and melodic music with chips and trills.
