What's the worst SpiderMan game you’ve ever played? Chances are, you said The Amazing SpiderMan 2. Now, what's the worst SpiderMan movie you’ve ever seen? Uh oh, that’s a pattern. Nearly everything tied to The Amazing SpiderMan 2 was a disaster, and while the discussions of the movie's good and bad aspects have been talked about at length online, The video game never got the same attention, at least, not the attention it was looking for. Yea, this game was panned heavily on release, and I want to find out why. I have a soft spot for this game because, for years, this was the only SpiderMan game I could play on my PS4, as I sold my PS3, and my other SpiderMan games, to get said PS4, which does mean I sort of had to like it at the time. But, now I have access to a ton of great SpiderMan games, so I can look at the game with a critical lens.

So, I want to answer; was The Amazing SpiderMan 2 good, if so or if not, then why? Or perhaps, should you buy it? Well I can answer that one for free; no, because you can’t buy it. Activision did not renew the licence for their SpiderMan games, meaning any old SpiderMan game needs to be bought physically, or you gotta sail the high seas. Now, we would never condone piracy here on the That Boy Aqua channel, but I can say that purchasing these games through classified vendors is extremely easy, except for The Amazing SpiderMan 2, and I think this says a lot about the games reputation. Many of these vendors have mission objectives along the lines of wanting to preserve abandoned games so they aren’t lost to time, and yet, The Amazing SpiderMan 2 is a tough find. So basically, these websites are saying we want to preserve video games, but not this one, cause this one sucks. Well, does The Amazing SpiderMan 2 suck? I mean, sort of, but it's more complicated than that.

Before we get too ahead of ourselves, I have to mention that while you may seem stuttering or performance issues here I don’t want to hold it against the game, because there's a good chance that I’m not playing the most uptodate version, as when purchasing the game through aforementioned vendors, you can’t always get an update. I can in good faith assume that performance issues, of which there were plenty, are likely fixed, but no amount of patches, plastic surgery, or even paper bags could fix the monstrosities on display. This is what most astounds me about The Amazing SpiderMan 2; it looks worse than the first game! How, the heck, does that happen? Keep in mind, The Amazing SpiderMan one released on the previous console generation, and while it too had some questionable art decisions, the massive phone for a minimap that takes up what feels like half the screen was a head scratcher, but genuinely everything here looks worse.

The Amazing SpiderMan 2 is a movie unlike any other and The Amazing Spiderman 2 game is much the same. A sequel to The Amazing SpiderMan movie, not The Amazing Spiderman game, The Amazing SpiderMan 2 in 2024 is regarded as one of the worst SpiderMan games ever. The Amazing SpiderMan 2 game was panned upon release, and considered worse than The Amazing SpiderMan game that came before it. After Marvel's SpiderMan 2, looking at The Amazing SpiderMan 2 years later is a sobering experience in terms of realising how good we have it. The not so Amazing SpiderMan 2 is something I planned to look at with more depth. I intended for this The Amazing SpiderMan 2 critique, part of my ongoing SpiderMan retrospective, to be really positive. The That Boy Aqua SpiderMan videos have generally been positive ones, and The Amazing SpiderMan 2 Game was supposed to follow this trend, but alas, TASM 2 the movie and TASM 2 Game have a lot in common in terms of quality. This The Amazing SpiderMan 2 review aims to explore that.
