In 2004, a former GoldenEye champion and world record holder turned his attention to Donkey Kong 64, aiming to become the first person to ever perform a speedrun of the game. This resulted in one of the strangest episodes in speedrun history, which was widely called the worst speedrun ever performed. This is the truly deep lore of an early speedrun oddity called "Wouter Goes Bananas".

In this video, we go over the history of Wouter's speedrunning career, the convoluted process of submitting speedruns to Speed Demos Archive in the early days, the difficulty in uploading and performing long speedruns two decades ago, and delve into other aspects of internet culture around the time, including exploring LUELinks, the SDA forums, and other influential characters in speedrunning at the time.
