The bells of Rho Shrine (Milan Italy) are playing Christmas carols and a Christmas concert

The bells of the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Rho (Milan, Italy) are playing some Christmas melodies on Christmas Eve and a solemn concert to announce the main Mass on Christmas Day. The ten magnificent bells were cast in 1887 by the Fratelli Barigozzi foundry in Milan and are sung in the diatonic scale of A major.

In 1522, the horse of a nobleman from Gallarate miraculously stopped at the crossroads of the road from Lainate to Rho, saving him from a deadly ambush. The nobleman built a small chapel dedicated to the Madonna della Neve to thank her for the miracle. On 24 April 1583, the face of Our Lady of Sorrows painted here began to weep real tears of blood; St Charles verified that the fact was true and called his architect Pellegrino Tibaldi, who began building the majestic shrine on 6 March 1584. On 2 January 1714, the priest Giorgio Martinelli began to live in Rho, founding the Oblate Missionary Fathers. Between 1752 and 1764, the dome was built, which is quite remarkable for its size and architecture. On 4 April 1755 the church was consecrated by Cardinal Giuseppe Pozzobonelli, who inaugurated the new 75metre high bell tower in 1759. In the second half of the 19th century, the sanctuary was embellished with an excellent painting cycle by Giuseppe Carsana, who left a splendid painted nativity scene to be assembled as a gift to the sanctuary. The construction of the sanctuary was finally completed in 1888, when the majestic concert of ten bells was mounted on the tower.
