In the 1890s, miners in Queensland were primarily focused on mining Pipe Opal and Seam Opal, overlooking Boulder Opal despite knowing how to reveal its color. Pipe Opal, believed by many to be opalized tree roots (root casts), was considered more accessible and lucrative. Unlike other opals, Pipe Opal occasionally displays a distinctive pink play of color, making it unique in the world of opals. In this video, I explain what Pipe opal is and where it went.
