The speaker is Hendrik (Rick) Hertzberg. He has been a long time journalist/writer for The New Yorker and the New Republic. He was also the speechwriter for Jimmy Carter. Whether or not you agree with his point of view, I feel that he is a wonderful storyteller with a unique way of presenting his experiences.
