This is my goto method for creating bold text in Inkscape. It is also suitable for adding a border around objects other than text.

Made in Inkscape v1.3
NOTE:
Pre1.0 versions handle the stroketopath operation differently.
Versions greater than v 1.3 may not convert stroke to path correctly.
