The Blind (2023), a story about Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty. Shot by Chris Stacey. #LitByAputure
Long before Phil Robertson was a reality TV star, he fell in love, started a family, and began to spiral out of control. THE BLIND shares neverbeforerevealed moments in Phil's life as he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, ultimately finding redemption in an unlikely place.
When DP Chris Stacey heard that the script called for duck blinds, boats, and trailers, he knew that it meant some rugged onlocation shooting. The production was out in Louisiana in shallow lakes and marshes where Chris strapped on his heavy swamp bibs with a camera on his shoulder, kneedeep in water. Why? Because the story called for an intimate, natural look that you can only get with the camera closeup to the actors riding in boats onlocation.
How do you light for such a movie? With the power of lightweight and durable fixtures, Chris and his crew were able to squeeze into everything from tight trailers to moving trucks in the rain to get the shot they needed. They relied upon remotecontrollable bulbs to quickly adjust to the color temperature they needed to match with other existing practicals and weatherresistant units that held up in thunderstorms to keep shooting the next day. In this video, you'll learn about the different techniques they used to get around onlocation challenges and how to craft the look of a movie around themes of romance, abuse, and family.
In theatres September 28, 2023. Watch the movie at your local cinema.
