La Palma is a hiker's paradise, Tenerife is also home to large beach tourism and the home of Spain's highest mountain. And Lanzarote offers fascinating volcanic landscapes. "Wonderful" has traveled to almost all of the Canary Islands. Andrea Grießmann, who lived in Spain for several years, presents the highlights and gives tips for deciding which island could be the destination for the next winter trip. Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and at the same time the most diverse: karstic, rocky landscapes in the south, green valleys in the north, large hotels for mass tourism, but also idyllic mountain villages. Right in the middle is the huge lava boulder field around the highest mountain in Spain, the Teide. Then the journey goes to the city of Santa Cruz, on a boat tour to the Masca Gorge and the Lago Martianez sea pool. On La Palma, Andrea Grießmann shows the black beach of Puerto de Tazacorte and accompanies hikes through the Caldeira de Taburiente National Park and along the levadas, the island's aboveground water channels. Dolphin and whale watching tours are popular on La Palma.

In Gran Canaria, the journey begins at the dunes of Maspalomas in the south of the island. Away from mass tourism, Andrea Grießmann presents wild mountain worlds. She hikes through the valley of 1,000 palm trees and visits the island's capital, Las Palmas, with its colonial charm. On Fuerteventura, the "beach" of the Canary Islands, it's all about surfing, diving and sand yachting on the Costa Calma.

Art and nature go hand in hand on Lanzarote: Andrea Grießmann presents painting courses and the art installations in the Jameos del Agua caves. Its creator, the artist and environmentalist César Manrique, who died in 1992, bequeathed his island a magnificent villa with a cactus garden, which today houses a tourist café. The cultivation of grapes in black volcanic sand is fascinating to look at. The Timanfaya National Park offers a breathtaking atmosphere including volcano barbecue specialties in the Teufel restaurant.
