Born into wealth circa 1181,
Francis of Assisi renounced his wealth,
lived a life of poverty and founded
the Order of “Friars Minor” known as the Franciscans.

He was the first person recognized historically
to have received the stigmata –
the 5 wounds of Jesus’ crucifixion.

St. Francis was quickly proclaimed a saint
and on October 4th his Feast Day
it is traditional for Catholic & Anglican Churches to Bless animals.
