Since the beginning of civilization, dolls have been beloved by children, cherished by collectors and used in religious rites as conduits for both good… and evil. Well, that’s what the Conjuring Movie Universe would have you believe anyway. And sure, why not? The Assyrians once believed that a person could be harmed by manipulating effigies in archaic rituals, whilst the Egyptians held to the notion that a person could be cursed by writing magic symbols upon sculptures made of wax, mud and limestone. So it’s not totally out of left field that the Conjuring’s Annabelle a creepy, god forsaken porcelain nightmare if I ever saw one, was conceived.
