Nick I was around 10 years old, when I started experiencing symptoms. I started getting headaches. I started vomiting a lot and I started losing weight.

Violet I was around 50ish pounds when I was nine. I'd try to eat something and then, yeah, I'd get full. So, I just wanted to know what was going on.

Wyatt It was really tough to, one, be a good student in the classrooms, but also, being an athlete, playing golf, carrying 45 pounds of a golf bag on your back in the heat of summer. It was very, very challenging.

Marc Rothenberg, MD, PhD In the case of these diseases, the eosinophils accumulate at very large levels, particularly in the blood and tissues, and they cause a variety of different problems associated with their overactivation.

Jennifer There were days he could barely keep his head up, and to have a high schooler that's that depleted, it's hard to watch. It impacted him academically. It impacted his sports life, socially, everything.

Shauna It's very tough watching your child be so sick.

Jeannine Nick was getting discouraged. And I just sat him down and I talked to him, my husband and I did, and we said we would do anything to help him. So, we'd get up at two o'clock in the morning and we'd travel to Cincinnati because that's what it takes.

Dr. Rothenberg We've uncovered the basic cause of the disease, the treatment, the guidelines and we have become exemplary for other centers around the US and the world.

Tina Cheng, MD, MPH There has been a long history of research here. There have been incredible discoveries and success stories from the research done here at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. It's really incredible that he has gone from understanding on the basic science level and describing a new disease but also that it's gone on to develop treatments for this disease. So, really spectacular that now we have a drug that has been FDA approved to address children with this disorder.

Wyatt With coming down to Cincinnati Children's for the clinical trials, the iron infusions have practically stopped because we are very blessed with this Dupixent drug and Cincinnati Children's is taken off and has launched.

Violet I don't have as much pain. I'm hardly nauseous anymore.

Nick And Cincinnati has a part to play in that where I can see a future now of no more independence than having to be dependent on the formula. Yeah. So I guess it gives a brighter outlook.

Jennifer And the clinical trial, it really, it gave us hope he would have a more normal life and that he could thrive and do all the normal stuff that kids wanna do.

Dr. Rothenberg Our success is completely dependent on your partnership. And we look forward to continuing the dialogue, advancing our common interest, better lives for people with eosinophilic GI diseases.
