The Corner Cabinet: Building Furniture with my CNC Domino's Biscuits Pocket Holes u0026 Hand Tools

Corbin Dunn

Hey woodworkers! I'm starting to design some custom furniture, and this is my first piece: a corner cabinet! I used my CNC machine to cut out a lot of the joinery (mortise and tenon), and also do some of the complex curves. But, I decided to through in some floating tenons (aka: Festool Domino's), biscuits, and pocket hole screws. A little bit of everything...even using my hand plane for a bit. This cabinet could be made without all these fancy tools, it would just take some more time and layout. And cutting some of the joinery on the CNC may not have been faster than simply setting up a dado stack on the table saw. Still, it is fun to investigate what the CNC is capable of doing.

I include my PDF "plans" for it, but they are very rough, and are just what I used to build it. However, I would frequently reference the CAD file when I needed to double check something. The file is Fusion 360, and includes several variations that I did for different styles and designs I was considering.

* 3/8 downcut bit: https://amzn.to/3HeohgK (roughing pass on shape)
* 1/4" ballnose (Link TBD mine was from 2L Inc)

My machine is a 4'x8' Avid CNC Pro. https://www.avidcnc.com

My inspiration: George Nakashima for a lot of the vertical slats, and a bit of Japanese architecture in general for the overall shapes and curves.
