In 1645, in the midst of the English Revolution, two men, generals Thomas Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell, rose up and overthrew King Charles I, who then ruled as an allpowerful monarch.

However, Cromwell's plans were far more radical. He orders the execution of the King, takes power and is appointed Lord Protector for life of the Republic of England. His armies spread violence and fear throughout the country. Then began 10 years of absolute dictatorship.
