The Destroyed 16000 Foot Tall Volcano in Arizona; San Francisco Mountain

Follow
GeologyHub

In recent history, Arizona once contained the tallest peak in the lower 48 US States. This peak was an active and towering volcano, which stood at 16,000 feet or 4,877 meters tall. This stratovolcano was covered with a glacier and was its impressive height as little as 400,000 years ago. So, what happened to this peak, and why is it seemingly not present in the modern skyline of Arizona? This video will discuss this massive volcano, and its implications for future volcanic activity near the town of Flagstaff.
