Desert Dreams and Wasted Youth

In the barren stretch, where the wild winds scream,
A paradise shimmered, born from a dream.
Lake Delores, a whisper of freedom’s call,
A sanctuary for the restless, where we stood tall.

Under the scorching sun, we found our way,
Teenagers adrift, in a desert play.
No fuzz to bind us, no rules to confine,
Just the open road, and stars that align.

Vans painted in rebellion, we rolled in with pride,
The scent of freedom, the spirit of the ride.
Smokin’, ballin’, tearing through the heat,
A world unbound, where young hearts beat.

Water slides like serpents, twisting through the air,
Extreme dreams danced, without a care.
Campsites filled with laughter, stories in the night,
Chasing shadows ‘til the dawn’s early light.

But time is a thief, and change is a beast,
The playground faded, our revelry ceased.
In ’90 it closed, a silence profound,
Our wild oasis, buried in the ground.

Resurrected briefly, a ghost of what was,
But the world had moved on, just because.
By ’04 the final curtain was drawn,
A new age dawned, the old ways gone.

Smartphones in hand, a generation lost,
Digital dreams at a terrible cost.
No longer tearing it up in the wild,
We traded adventure for the screen's beguile.

Oh, wasted youth, where did you go?
The desert calls, but the answer’s slow.
Lake Delores, a relic of time’s cruel thrust,
A paradise lost, now covered in dust.
