Isle of Wight Reverie

On the Isle of Wight in seventy,
We gathered, hearts in harmony,
A sea of peace, of love, of song,
A world where we, the Hippies, belonged.

With The Doors and Hendrix in the air,
Moody Blues and Tull laid bare,
The Who's anthems stirred our souls,
As we, the youth, claimed our roles.

A half a million strong we stood,
In fields of green, a hopeful wood,
Our banners high, our spirits free,
A testament to liberty.

From dawn to dusk, from night to morn,
We danced and sang, a new world born,
In the music's pulse, we found our way,
Against the war, we'd shout and sway.

For years the peace we sought was marred,
By bullets, lies, and bodies scarred,
The war machine, it claimed our peers,
And fueled our fight, dispelled our fears.

No longer silent, we raised our cries,
In defiance of the bloodstained skies,
"Power to the People!" we would shout,
In unity, we cast our doubt.

The Isle became a beacon bright,
A symbol of our endless fight,
For peace, for love, for freedom's right,
Against the dark, we shone our light.

As one, we stood, as one, we'd leave,
In solidarity, we’d grieve,
Yet in our hearts, a fire burned,
The tide of change, it had turned.

Though beaten down, we rose again,
In song, in protest, hand in hand,
For on that Isle, in harmony,
We forged a path to liberty.
