Weighed down by public deficits of more than 500 billion dollars and an exploding international debt, any country other than the United States would have been swept away, with its currency, by a financial hurricane.
However, Uncle Sam's homeland is not in flames and blood; its leaders remain calm and the population goes about its business.
Whether it rises or falls, it is always for others that the dollar seems to have negative consequences. This “exorbitant privilege” of exporting one's deficits to others is the effect of the status of reserve currency and international payment.
This privileged position, practically never called into question, has been built gradually since the Second World War with the rise of America.
In this sense, the dollar is the very symbol of the economic efficiency of the United States, of its imperialism or its hyper power.
The whole question is whether, today, we are witnessing the end of this historical cycle or not.
