The Hotel Inspector meets 71yearold Margaret Ashwood, who has been running the threestar Godolphin Arms Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, for the past 29 years. Employing 20 staff and enjoying a 70% occupancy, the hotel is full to the rafters with coach tours for most of the year. However, the hotel hasn't been making any money for years. Margaret has been scratching her head in search of answers, and profits, but to no avail, so she's called in renowned hotelier Alex Polizzi for help. Before long, Alex uncovers that Margaret is not charging guests nearly enough and demands that she starts acting more like a businesswoman, charging for extras and attracting more families to the hotel. If the hotel doesn't start making some real money soon, she's going to be forced to close its doors. But after 29 years, will Margaret be open to change?
