❖ Summary: In the autumn of 1940, during a war against Japan, Zhao Guowu, a battalion captain of the Sichuan Army's 149th Regiment and a secret member of the Communist Party, survived the battle and returned to his hometown in Sichuan Province. With the help of Communist Party member Kong Lixin and his brother, the county's military service director, Zhao formed a youth regiment and once again set out for the battlefield of Yicheng. However, for various reasons, he lost contact with his original unit and the Party, and was relentlessly pursued by the Japanese Matsumoto unit. At a critical moment, he was rescued by a guerrilla team from Hubei Province. Eventually, with the help of the Communist Party, Zhao and his youth regiment uncovered enemy intelligence about the Matsumoto unit. They then collaborated with the guerrillas to defend Jiangxin Island, lure the enemy reinforcements, and create a perfect opportunity for the Chinese army to attack Yicheng Airport. At the end of the battle, Zhao's youth regiment and the guerrilla soldiers heroically sacrificed themselves, and Zhao Guowu perished along with Matsumoto in the final moment, fulfilling the oath they took before leaving Sichuan: "We will not return to Sichuan unless we annihilate the Japanese invaders.
